Woman hit by car completely forgets her husband

When Angela woke up, she thought it was 1998. - by Elle Lisbon
  • 10 Jul 2018

It sounds like something out of a movie, but after getting hit by a car in New York City mother-of-two Angela Hartung completely lost her memory and was stuck in the past.

The accident, which happened five years ago, left Angela fighting for her life in a coma for a month. When she woke up, she thought it was 15 years ago - that she was still married to her first husband and her children were still young.

"I do not remember anything at all. I asked for my two children, I thought they were like 2 and 8 years old. They were 17 and 23 years old," she said to CBS.

Angela's first husband had actually died years ago and she had remarried a man called Jeff. But she didn't remember Jeff or anything about their love or lives together.

"She would look at me and ask me why I was in the room," Jeff recalled of their time in the hospital to ABC News. "She just learned to trust because I was there every day, all day ... I was there more than the doctor.

"She actually thought I was the doctor at one point," he added.

Jeff began the difficult task of reintroducing himself to his wife, showing her photos of them together and filling in the blanks.

Jeff succeeded in making Angela fall in love with him all over again and earlier this month, the pair renewed their vows in Central Park surrounded by family and friends.

"I honestly believe that this happened for a reason," Jeff said of the accident.

"How many times have we said, 'I wish I could go back and do something over again?' I've gotten to do that."

There we have it folks, love is real.
