Turia Pitt reveals what her baby’s name means

The inspirational new mum finally told fans! - by Katherine Davison
  • 22 Feb 2018

She welcomed her baby boy in December, and two months later inspirational mum Turia Pitt has revealed what her son’s name means.

Introducing her bundle of fun to her 762,000 Instagram fans after he was born, Turia informed them he was called Hakavai.

But the meaning of the adorable tot’s name has gone unexplained… until now.

Taking to her popular social media page for International Mother Language Day on Wednesday, Turia posted an image of her own mum holding her baby boy.

‘You can always tell when Mum’s been around,’ she wrote alongside a flower emoji.

‘So nice to hear her speak in Tahitian to Hakavai (although he really needs to work on his linguistic skills,’ Turia went on.

‘Happy #internationalmotherlanguageday. FYI Hakavai means ‘Dance of the water’ in Tahitian,’ the doting mum finally revealed.

Earlier in the week, Turia had shared some new snaps of Hakavai, alongside a link to the story of his birth.

In a lengthy blog post, Turia reveals how she prepared for her baby boy’s birth at 40 weeks along.

‘At 40 weeks and one day, I thought “Okay mate, it’s time for you to come out and meet the world”.

'So, I swam a kilometre, went for a bushwalk and went four wheel driving …. on a very bumpy road.

 Nada.

’ she wrote with trademark humour.

‘At 40 weeks and two days, I saw my chiropractor and got my pelvis aligned. I swam a kilometre. I went to an acupuncturist.

‘I made an eggplant parmigiana (I used a recipe touted all over the internet as the best labour inducing food out there - google ‘scalini's eggplant parmigiana’ for the recipe).

It appears Turia’s labour-inducing meal worked – as Hakavai was born the next day.
