An eight-year-old boy has tragically died after a man pushed him onto train tracks as a train pulled into the station.
The unnamed boy was waiting at the Frankfurt, Germany, train station, when a man pushed him and his mother onto the tracks.
According to The Sun, the mother was able to roll into a narrow gap between tracks and survive.
But the boy was hit and run over by a high-speed ICE train that was approaching the station at the time.
He suffered fatal injuries.
Police said that the suspect then tried unsuccessfully to push another person onto the track, before fleeing from the scene.
The man, who is believed to be from Eritrea, was arrested shortly after and questioned.
His motive still remains unclear but police spokesperson Isabelle Neumann said there appears to be no connection between the suspect and victims.
The boy’s mother was taken to hospital and is being treated for shock.
