Yellow Wiggle Emma Watkins’ terrifying surgery ordeal

'I lost so much blood' - by Nadia S
  • 04 Jun 2018

Yellow Wiggle Emma Watkins has revealed she was terrified at the prospect of undergoing surgery back in April to treat endometriosis.

Speaking to Weekend, the much -loved children’s entertainer said the ‘severity’ of her condition only hit her when she lost so much blood that doctors were forced to give her an iron transfusion.

'What was freaking me out leading up to the surgery was I was starting to feel not great doing lots of shows,’ the 28 year old revealed.

'I lost so much blood I had an infusion, and that's when it started to hit me. I had had really bad periods since school pretty much, but when the doctors are actually in there, they can see the severity.

Thank you for all the well wishes 💕 Operation went well and now in recovery 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸

'It seemed worse than I had thought, and they thought as well.'

Endometriosis is a chronic condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows on other parts of the body. It can appear in many different places, including the ovaries, fallopian tubes, the stomach and in or around the bladder and bowel and there is no cure.

Thankfully, the surgery was a success and Emma now back on The Wiggles set.

'I have been in a lot of pain or the past couple of years,' she told the Daily Telegraph.

'Put your health first and get a diagnosis so that you are in the best position to managed this crippling disease,' she advised other women.

The singer, actor and dancer married fellow Wiggle Lachy Gillespie two years ago and said her doctor has advised the pair wait at least 12 months to 'recover from this surgery' before they try and conceive a child.
