A photo posted by a diner at the American restaurant – IHOP – says her faith in humanity has been restored after witnessing a waiter hand-feed one of the guests so her husband’s food wouldn’t get cold.
What she had spotted was the routine that waiter, Joe Thomas, 43, and his regulars had at least once every week.
The woman he was feeding suffers from Huntington’s Disease which has left her unable to feed herself. Joe had noticed that her husband, who would patiently feed her first, would end up having to eat his cold breakfast after.
So one day, instead of just putting their food down, Joe sat down and started to feed the woman.
‘I didn’t really offer. I just started doing it,” Joe told CBS News. “I told the gentleman to ‘Sit down, eat your food. I got her.’
And that’s how it’s been ever since. While many people have praised the kindness and generosity of Joe, his colleagues say that this is how he is.
‘This is no big deal for him. He does this every time,’ his fellow staff member, Amanda Williams, commented. ‘He’s an awesome coworker.’
Joe, meanwhile, says he just does what he thinks is right.
‘Everything I do is honestly just natural, besides the way my parents raised me. I don’t think about it. I just do it.’
