Mason Harvey Marks tragically died at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide on Sunday. The 18-month-old had been airlifted there after being tested for the deadly disease at Mannum Hospital that morning.

On Tuesday, it was confirmed he had the B-strain of disease, which is not currently covered on the taxpayer-funded National Immunisation Program, the Adelaide Advertiser, reports.

In a statement, his heartbroken mother, Caitlyn, said she was still in shock and didn’t want his death to be real.

‘Mason was an amazing little man who will forever be in everyone’s hearts,’ she said. ‘He was taken way too soon by a horrible disease that took his life in a matter of seven hours.’
