R. Lee Ermey, best known for his role in Full Metal Jacket, has died at age 74.
Ermey, who played Gunnery Sgt. Hartman in the 1987 Stanley Kubrick film, passed away from complications of pneumonia.
The news was announced the actor’s official twitter account by his longtime manager, Bill Rogin.
“It is with deep sadness that I regret to inform you all that R. Lee Ermey (“The Gunny”) passed away this morning from complications of pneumonia. He will be greatly missed by all of us,” the statement reads.

After retiring from the military after 11 years, Ermey took acting classes and was cast in films including Apocalypse Now, The Boys in Company C, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
