A female police officer has been praised around the world after an image of her breastfeeding a neglected baby went viral.
The baby was found seriously malnourished following reports the child’s mother was struggling to look after him.
After noticing hospital staff in Buenos Aires were overworked, Argentinian police officer Celeste Ayala offered to hold and feed the little boy.
Ms Ayala told local media she noticed the baby was crying and putting his hand to his mouth, indicating he was hungry.
‘It was a sad moment, it broke my soul seeing him like this,’ she said.
The woman’s colleague took a photograph of the incredible act, and it soon touched the hearts of people across the globe.
Written in Spanish, the caption of the image read: ‘I want to make public this great gesture of love that you had today with that little baby, who without knowing, you didn’t hesitate…Things like that don’t happen every day.’
The picture quickly attracted 91,000 likes and over 112,000 shares, with many describing the breastfeeding as a ‘beautiful gesture’.
