‘I got a piercing to stop my migraines’

Turns out this jewellery was more than just bling!

After suffering intense migraines every, single, day for the past two years, I thought that there was no solution to the problem.

Working at an office job didn’t make the situation any easier – having to stare at a bright screen all day, trying to ignore the excruciating pain building up behind my left eyeball.

I was desperate to find an answer. I had brain scans and blood tests; I tried breathing and relaxation exercises. But nothing seemed to work.

It got to the point where I was taking four painkillers a day just to stop the pain.

So when a friend told me about an ear piercing that could end my crippling migraines, I was intrigued. The daith piercing goes through the main cartilage fold in the ear, the crus of the helix.

So I dug around the Internet and found plenty of people who raved about its results. Their migraines completely disappeared, or at least reduced in pain.

I thought, really? Could an earring really do that? But I was at the point where I’d try anything. And hey, at the end of it, even if the migraines didn’t go away, at least I’d have a cool new piercing.

Then one day after experiencing another killer migraine, I’d had enough. So I went straight to get the piercing.

The body piercer prepared me and she used a needle to make the hole first, followed by the thick earring. I won’t lie, it hurt… A LOT.

But, straight after the double whammy of pain, came a feeling of relief. It was like the pressure I had been feeling in my head for so long was finally at ease.

Of course I’d have to give it more than five seconds to see if it actually worked.

After the first week, guess what… no migraines.

Week two – still no migraines.

Week three, I was super stressed and I must admit, I did get a couple of headaches (but the severity was probably 90% less painful).

And from week four to now (eight weeks after getting the piercing) I have not had a single migraine. I can now make it through the day without enduring horrible, brain-breaking pain.

I can’t speak for everyone but I can speak for myself and I think that if you suffer from migraines, it might be worth a try.
