A New Zealand mother has died just days after a heartbreaking picture captured her newborn baby being baptised by her side.

Arlene Padawang-Cosme, 37, suffered a brain aneurysm and passed away just two weeks after giving birth to a baby girl.

A photo posted on a Give A Little page set up for her devastated family showed her daughter, Grayan, being baptised next to her hospital bed.

‘Grayan was so settled and comfy beside her mum’s side,’ the heartbreaking photo was captioned.

Arlene passed away on 5 December after spending weeks in a coma.

The mother-of-three had given birth via caesarean but was rushed to hospital after she collapsed while back home.

‘With deep grief, we are so sad to announce the passing of our dear sister Arlene on 7:15PM of 5 December 2017,’ her family wrote on the Give A Little page.

‘She is now in peace with the Lord Almighty.

‘Thank you so much for the LOVE and PRAYERS that you shared with us.

‘May God Bless you all.’

The family’s story touched hearts across the world – with more than $26,000 being raised to support them.

Money raised by the donation page will go towards the family’s costs and her little girls’ future.
