Australian actor Takaya Honda has revealed his heartbreak as he watches his mother suffer through early on-set of Alzheimer’s disease.
Speaking to Confidential, the Neighbours said the witnessing his mother’s illness firsthand has felt like ‘torture’.
“You can’t tell whether….mum as I remember her is still inside there trying to break out and that kind of torture is the worst,” he revealed.
“It is a strange thing for myself and my family watching her devolve. It is heartbreaking.”
The star’s mother Rhonda was diagnosed at the young age of 52 and her son has since become a proud ambassador for the detrimental disease.
Earlier this year, he revealed his mum had been suffering from the condition for almost a decade.
“This year she [his mum] turns 60 and we are having to face placing her into full-time care to ensure she is getting the care she needs,” the 29-year-old said.
“Without my mum, I would not be the person I am today, she sacrificed so much along with my dad to afford the opportunities that have led me to where I am.”
