Mum pleads guilty after killing her son in a car crash when she checked maps on her phone

She only took her eyes off the road for a few seconds.

A New Zealand mum is facing court after a car accident which reveals the dangers of driving with a phone in your hand.

Kim Crous, 38, was driving her son James, and her daughter on a highway in New Zealand when she became distracted checking a Google maps on her phone.

Soon after her vehicle collided with queued traffic on the highway, causing her son’s neck to break instantly and he died at the scene. Kim and her daughter were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The mother pleaded guilty on Wednesday to one charge of careless driving causing death and two of careless driving causing injury – reports NZ Herald.

She will return to court in January for her sentencing hearing.
