Police are speaking to a man over a bizarre act of vandalism where a bucket of faeces was thrown over a Fremantle war memorial.

A man has been sent for a mental health assessment after being identified by members of the public.

Footage captured by a witness on Sunday evening shows a man emptying a bucket of faeces over plaques at the Monument Hill memorial.
