A 20-year-old man has been arrested over the cold-blooded killing of young international student Aiia Maasarwe.
Detectives swooped on Friday morning, arresting the man in Greensborough, northeast Melbourne, two days after Aiia’s death.
‘The arrest followings an extensive investigation into Aiia’s death following the discovery of her body near Main Drive and Plenty Road in Bundoora on Wednesday 16 January about 7am,’ a Victoria Police statement read.
‘Police would like to thank the public for their assistance with the investigation.’
Aiia, an exchange student from Israel, was found just metres from a tram stop in Bundoora, Melbourne on Wednesday morning.
It is understood Aiia had alighted the 86 tram on her way home when she was attacked and left for dead.
