Legendary soul singer Aretha Franklin has died aged 76, her family has confirmed.

The popular crooner, known as the ‘Queen of Soul’, passed away in her home in Detroit, Michigan on Thursday morning at 9.50am.

Her official cause of death has been reported as pancreatic cancer, as stated by the singer’s oncologist Dr Phillip Phillips, of Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit.

After news of Franklin’s death broke, fans around the world have mourned her passing by paying tribute to the highlights of her illustrious career.

Some of the US pop diva’s biggest anthems include Respect, Natural Woman and I Say A Little Prayer.

She was also the first woman to be inducted into the renowned Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
