A mum-of-four who used heroin during her pregnancy allegedly gave her newborn daughter powerful drugs in an attempt to mask her inherited addiction from doctors.
Police claim that Lacey Dawn Christenson, 26, and her partner Colby Glen Wilde, 29, told officers that they had conspired to hide the daughter’s addiction by plying her with powerful narcotics that they had crushed up and rubbed on the infant’s gums reports KUTV.
The couple were arrested during a shoplifting attempt at a Walmart in Spanish Fork. The pair were taken into custody, and their four children put in the care of Christenson’s former partner and father of the eldest child.
A neighbour who had come round to look after the couple’s pets contacted police saying the house was full of drug paraphernalia. While searching the house officers found crushed up Suboxone, a painkiller used to ease withdrawal symptoms from heroin addiction.
Testing the children, the Utah Division of Child and Family Services found that the three older children tested positive for methamphetamine, while the baby tested positive for morphine and heroin.
The pair have been charged with drug possession charges, and child endangerment charges.
Investigations continue.
