Australian NRL star Jarryd Hayne has been accused of rape in a civil suit filed in the Santa Clara County court in the US overnight.
The Gold Coast Titans player had a short stint with the San Fransisco 49ers in the NFL, has been accused of engaging in a non-consensual sexual incident with a ‘Ms. V’ in 2015, The Mercury News reports.
The US District Attorney’s office reviewed the case and rejected it on October 25 last year due to insufficient evidence.
The Mercury News is reporting the alleged victim was a virgin at the time of the incident, and was afraid to come forward for several months, and sought medical treatment a while after.
‘Mr Hayne brought our client back to his home, approached her in the dark, turned her around as to not face him and told her ‘no kissing’,’ attorney John Clune said in a statement provided to news.com.au. ‘He then had nonconsensual sexual intercourse with her, causing her significant physical pain.’
According to the suit, the victim reportedly informed law enforcement of the rape in May of 2016.
