31-year-old Heather suffered from cancer, and was bed ridden due to the debilitating condition. So, surrounded by family and friends, with bridesmaid, friend and photographer Christina Karas capturing the beautiful story on film, the couple pledged to spend the rest of their lives together and marry while in hospital.

But, the couple would only get 12 loving hours as husband and wife, as Heather died shortly after the ceremony.

Karas shared a series of photographs from the couple’s special date, and wrote: ‘Standing in front of everyone in the chapel, I was hesitant to pull out my camera. As someone who wanted nothing more than to see my friend truly happy, I felt I had to capture these images, which by this point I knew were her final moments with us.

What you clearly see here is two people who were destined to be joined as one. A love like no other captured for all to see. My gift to her.’

I am in awe of the strength Dave’s love inspired in Heather even in her last hours,’ Karas continued.

Heather’s mother was also in attendance, and Karas shares how brave and supportive she was.

She wrote, ‘The amount of strength her mum showed could only be possible because of her unwavering faith in God, despite the certainty she would lose her only daughter on this earth.’
