A teenage girl attacked another student in her school orchestra with acid because she started dating her ex-boyfriend.
Emily Bowen, 18, poured drain cleaner into Molly Young’s viola case. When Molly, also 18, pulled the case down from a top shelf the liquid, which was 91 per cent sulfuric acid, splashed over her legs, causing horrific burns.
The court heard that Bowen researched acid attacks online after discovering Molly was dating her ex boyfriend, according to The Sun.
Sheriff Michael O’Grady QC described her crime as ‘utterly wicked’.
‘You researched this topic and should have been aware of the potentially horrendous consequences for any young woman maimed by this,’ he said.
‘You have left a young woman to suffer a terrifying ordeal and she will be both physically and mentally scarred for the rest of her life.’
She has been sentenced to 21 months behind bars.
