A picky bride-to-be has not gotten much sympathy after turning to an online forum to complain that her engagement ring was too small, and didn’t cost her fiancé very much.
‘I was so happy and excited to accept but was disappointed when I first saw the ring. The first word that entered my head was ‘small’,’ she wrote on Mumsnet.
She goes on to say that her husband earns over six figures, but only spent around $2000 (£1,300) on the ring, which she claims is ‘a lot less than I would have imagined he would have spent on such a significant piece of jewellery.’
‘Someone at work apparently told him that ‘if she makes it all about the ring, then she’s not the girl for you’,’ she added
She tries to lessen the impact of seeming ‘all about the ring’ by adding that she would have preferred to pick something together, that they both liked since she would be wearing it every day.
It didn’t take long for the forum to quickly side with the husband and brand the woman as ‘grabby.’
‘Blimey. I’d have been delighted; talk about being ungrateful, the person at work is 100% right,’ commented one user.
Some wondered whether or not she really wanted to marry him, if she was so bent out of shape about the ring: ‘If you’d said you didn’t like the style I’d have been fairly sympathetic. But if it’s simply not big and flashy enough…it sounds like you’re more interested in showing off the ring than you are in him.’
‘I certainly wouldn’t base whether I like it on how expensive it is, it seems a bit grabby to me, surely it’s him you love not how much he is spending on you.’
While some people suggested that if she didn’t like the design she could suggest they choose something together, others believed she was really just looking for something more expensive.
‘What is it that bothers you – the style or cost? If you found out it cost £6000 would you like it more?’
Sounds like she probably would have.
