A teenage girl has been legally euthanised after the demons from her childhood rape proved too much to bear.
Noa Pothoven, 17, from the Netherlands, said the pain she endured after being raped and molested as a child was ‘insufferable’.
Writing on social media post the day before her death, Noa admitted to friends and family she ‘breathes but no longer lives’, according to News.com.au.
In an autobiography called Winning or Learning, the young girl recounted being molested at a children’s party aged 11 and 12, before being raped by a man at age 14.
‘After years of battling and fighting, I am drained. I have quit eating and drinking for a while now, and after many discussions and evaluations, it was decided to let me go because my suffering is unbearable,’ Noa wrote.
‘Out of fear and shame, I relive the fear, that pain every day. Always scared, always on my guard. And to this day my body still feels dirty.’
Noa spent her final moments being surrounded by her devastated friends and family.
She reportedly asked her loved ones ‘not convince me that this is not good, this is my decision and it is final’.
The Dutch teen had been previously admitted into hospital a in critical condition due to complications from anorexia.
Children as young as 12 in the Netherlands can be legally euthanised, as long as a doctor has determined their pain is ‘unbearable’.
