Daughter of woman killed in shock balcony collapse pays tribute

The daughter of a woman, who was killed after a balcony collapsed during a Tupperware party, has shared a touching online tribute.

Melissa Taylor’s mother Cheryl, 59, died when a timber balcony collapsed at a Christmas party at a home in Doncaster, Melbourne, on Saturday night.

Taking to Facebook on Sunday, Melissa shared an image of her mother along with the post: ‘There is a light and it never goes out’.

Speaking to New Idea, Melissa said that anyone wanting to make a donation in memory of her mum could support the National Breast Cancer Foundation – an organization that has long been championed by Tupperware.

Ms Taylor and another 37-year-old woman, who were both managers at Tupperware, died as the deck at the property collapsed as the party congregated for a group photo.

17 other people were injured in the tragedy.

The party was hosted by married couple Eve and Chris Nunn – and was a festive occasion for Tupperware employees.

Paying tribute to Ms Taylor on Monday, a friend from her Tupperware team spoke of her ‘shock and disbelief’.

‘[Cheryl] was such an amazing and witty lady and everyone who met her loved her,’ the friend said.

‘She had Tupperware in her blood… My heart and thoughts go out to everyone involved. I can’t even begin to imaging what you are all going through.’

Ambulance Victoria said it was forced to activate its major emergency response plan to deal with the aftermath of the incident.
