Alan Langdon, 46, and his little girl, Que, were last seen on December 17 leaving a harbour in Waikato in a 21ft catamaran.

Mr Langdon, an experienced yachtsman, was reportedly in a custody dispute with Que’s mother, Ariane Wyler, when the pair disappeared, prompting an international search.

Friends feared Mr Langdon may try to travel to Australia, where he had previously lived and was a citizen.

According to news.com.au Ms Wyler enlisted the help of Queensland child recovery expert, Col Chapman, in a bid to find her daughter, fearing that Mr Langdon would try and disappear in Australia.

However police have now confirmed that the pair arrived at Ulladulla on the New South Wales coast earlier this week.

Mr Langdon said he and his daughter had crossed the Tasman to Australia and were both safe and well.

‘We were always safe, we just couldn’t let anyone know,’ he told The Milton and Ulladulla Times. He also spoke about his daughter being in good spirits after they saw plenty of whales on their journey.

It is understood that Mr Langdon is cooperating with police but it is not clear whether he will face charges.
