The bodies of a man, 46, and his six-month-old baby were discovered in a red Holden Commodore on Roys Rd in Coochin Creek, on the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday morning.

Detective Inspector Dave Drinnen confirmed the man and the mother of the baby had recently separated after alleged domestic violence incidents, according to News.com.au.

The alarm was raised when the man failed to return the child to his mother as per their court-ordered custody arrangement.

‘It is extremely distressing, it’s a very tragic incident,’ Mr Drinnen told reporters.

‘The mother was extremely distraught as you can imagine. It’s very concerning what has taken place.’

No weapons were found inside of the car and police have not confirmed the cause of death.
