A couple who survived the Las Vegas shooting have tragically died in a car crash less than a kilometre from their California home.

The accident, which occurred earlier this month, came two weeks after the husband jumped onto his wife to shield her from the bullets raining down on them during the October 1 massacre.

The Las Vegas Review Journal reports that Dennis and Lorraine Carver died after their vehicle crashed into a metal gate outside their community in Riverside Country.

‘After the shooting, they heard from all the people they cared about most. They were so happy,’ Brooke Carver, 20, their daughter, told the newspaper. ‘The last two weeks of their lives were really just spent living in the moment.’

The couple’s youngest daughter, Madison, 16, heard a loud bang outside her window the night of the accident and ran down the street to see her parents’ vehicle up in flames, the publication further reports.

The couple had been together for 22 years and had managed to escape the massacre in Las Vegas uninjured.

Dennis had jumped on his loving wife after realising the gunshots weren’t fireworks, and the pair ran hand-in-hand to safety.

‘That’s just the kind of love they had for each other,’ their daughter added. ‘Their love was selfless.’
