Who doesn’t love Italian food?
But local cooks need to be careful – the country’s highest court has ruled that Italians who allow the aroma of a particularly pungent meal to waft into their neighbour’s home are committing a crime.
According to The Telegraph, the ruling emerged after residents in an apartment block on the Adriatic coast complained about a married couple cooking up vats of rich pasta sauces and ‘fritti misti’ or mixed fried seafood.
‘The whole of my apartment became impregnated with the smell of the pasta sauce and the fried fish. It felt like their kitchen was in my flat,’ a resident complained.
The Court of Cassation ordered them to pay a fine of 2,000 euros.
