Limited edition Coles Stikeez figurines are selling online for tens of thousands of dollars.
The Australian supermarket released only 100 of the rare ‘Golden Billy Bananas’, sending dedicated collectors into a frenzy.
One of the collectables was put on eBay with a starting price of only $10.
Within hours, the winning bidder had made the staggering offer of $20,100, ending the online auction.
Other golden banana figurines are going for extreme prices on the auction site too.
Another of the supermarket’s rare collectables is on offer on eBay for $4,500, with bidding still taking place, while another is going for $2,550.
Stikeez is one of Coles’ latest collectable campaigns, after the wildly popular Little Shop promotion.
For every $30 that is spent in store, shoppers receive one Stikeez.
‘So far only 34 of the rare gold Billy the Bananas have been claimed so there are still 66 out there to be found,’ a Coles spokesperson said.
Other rare collectable from the Stikeez campaign include a shiny Eddie the Eggplant, a sparkling Cooper the Carrot, a see-through Brodie the Broccoli and a glowing Carlo the Cucumber.
The campaign will last for another few weeks – but the end of the promotion is likely to make the figurines sell for even more.
