The 51-year-old had made a career taking people hunting big game in Zimbabwe.

A South African big game hunter was killed during a hunt when an elephant that had been shot collapsed on top of him.

Theunis Botha had made a career taking tourists big game hunting in the hunting ranged of Zimbabwe, Botswana, and South Africa.

While out following a herd of elephants, News24 report that three of them became startled and charged the group of hunters.

Botha reportedly opened fire, but was lifted into the air by a female elephant’s trunk. A fellow hunter then shot the animal, causing it to fall and collapse with Botha underneath, killing him.

He leaves behind his wife, Carike, and their five children.

While many of the man’s friends and family took to Facebook to express their sorry, others were not so quick to extend their sympathies – saying that it was ‘karma’ for the way Botha had made his living.
