Belgian backpacker raped in South Australia saved by her dad 16000km away

Amazing work to rescue the 24-year-old tourist.

A Belgian tourist has been rescued after a South Australian man allegedly raped her and held her captive in rural Meningie.

The victim, a 24-year-old backpacker, was able to send two messages from her laptop during her ordeal, one to a friend in Queensland and the other to a friend in Belgium who alerted the woman’s father – a police officer over 16,000 kms away.

Banding together, the Belgian police were able to use the computer’s IP address to locate the girl visa GPS. They then alerted Australian police who found the girl in a motel room.

A middle-aged man was arrested at his property nearby and charged with rape and unlawful detention of the young backpacker.
