Nine people have been confirmed dead with another 50 injured in a terrifying attack at a Christmas market in Berlin, Germany. This is the second vehicle attack in Europe since the tragic events in Nice earlier this year.
The vehicle crashed into the markets at 40mph (60kmph), which were taking place near the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Western Berlin. Local police have confirmed the news, saying the first indications suggest the crash was an attack.
The deputy editor of Berliner Morgenpost told CNN:
‘I heard a big noise and then I moved on the Christmas market and saw much chaos…many injured people. It was really traumatic.’
The suspected driver has been apprehended according to a Berlin police spokesperson, though no other details have been given.
CNN spoke to Emma Rushton, a civilian who tweeted from the centre of the incident.
‘We saw at least 10 people injured and lying on the ground,’ she said.
‘There was no way it was an accident.’
We’ll keep you updated as new details emerge.
