A woman is being accused of spreading ‘propaganda’ by anti-vaccination advocates after she posts a confronting video of her five-week-old baby with whooping cough struggling to breathe.
Sydney mum, Sandra Tee, posted a video of her young daughter Heidi choking, and then stopping breathing. She warns in the description that the video may be confronting, but that it was important to show how ‘scary and dangerous whooping cough is to babies who are too young to be vaccinated’.
Sandra Tee and her husband suspect their newborn came in contact with the disease after a whooping cough outbreak at their son Lincoln’s day-care centre. A scenario she claims could have been avoided were more children vaccinated.
‘Babies rely on herd immunity to keep them safe and unfortunately we cannot achieve that without high vaccination rates,’ she writes.
Sandra’s video has inspired a impassioned backlash from those who claim vaccinations do more harm than good.
The new mum, however, won’t be swayed from her mission to raise awareness about the importance of vaccination.
’You read a lot of scary things online about whether vaccinations are or are not safe, but you have your child in hospital stop breathing and you’ll change you view in about 10 seconds,’ Sandra told 7 News.
