A 62-year-old Spanish doctor (pictured below) has defied the odds by giving birth to her third child.

Lina Alvarez gave birth yesterday to a healthy baby girl via caesarian after being admitted two weeks early to hospital due to complications with high blood pressure.

Despite beginning the menopause over 20 years ago, Lina – who is also mother to Exiquio, 28 and Samuel, 10 – Lina decided to undergo fertility treatment in order to fulfill her desire to become a mum again.

Despite receiving heavy criticsm for undergoing IVF treatment in her 60’s, Lina says she is delighted to have given birth to a baby girl, who she’s also named Lina.

‘I’m the happiest person on the planet. Everything went perfectly,’ says Lina.

‘When she is 30 I’ll be 90. She’ll have been raised and life expectancy for women is growing all the time.

‘I always wanted to be a mother again but most medical experts said “no”.

Then some years ago I met a gynaecologist who agreed to help me if the tests were okay.

‘They were positive and so he helped me to implant an embryo. They said there was only a six per cent chance of success but I got pregnant with a baby girl.

‘I feel like I’m having a second chance and the pregnancy has made me younger and stronger.’
