A five-year-old boy has passed away while on a family holiday in the Greek island, Kos.
Reports say that Theo Treharne-Jones from Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, drowned at the swimming pool of the hotel he and his family were staying at.
It’s understood that the boy’s parents discovered him unconscious in the pool on Saturday morning in the holiday resort, Marmari.
The family are believed to have been staying at the Atlantica Holiday Village when the tragic accident took place.
TV channel ANT1 TV reported that the boy’s parents discovered him and pulled his unconscious body from the pool.
Paramedics and doctors tried to resuscitate the boy, but he reportedly died before the ambulance arrived.
It’s believed that his parents were initially arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and endangering a minor, but were released shortly after in what is ‘usual proceedings’ for Greek police.
Police of Kos told The Sun, ‘It is common for next of kin to be arrested in such circumstances but as is always the case, they were not held in police custody and were immediately freed.’
A Foreign and Commonwealth Office official said, ‘We are supporting the family of a British child who died in Kos, Greece, and our staff are in touch with the local authorities.’
