The story behind this photo of a dog is just heartbreaking

So emotional! - by Kathryn Lewsey

A photo of a dog waiting by his owner’s bed has gone viral for heartbreaking reasons.

In the snap, Moose from New Jersey, can be seen patiently sitting at his ‘Dad’s’ bed.

But tragically, unbeknown to him, the loyal pooch’s owner passed away this week.

Eleventh Hour Rescue shelter shared the post on their Facebook page, writing, ‘(Moose was) waiting for him to return, not knowing that ‘Dad had passed away. He’s a sweet happy boy by nature. He just needs people to help his heart heal.’

The rescue shelter added that the Labrador cross was ‘taking the loss of his dad pretty hard.’

‘Please help us heal his heart,’ they added.

Tugging on heartstrings, the emotional post has been shared over 2,500 times over the past two days.

Moose, who is affectionately known as ‘The Moosinator’, was described as a very loveable pooch.

‘So much so that Moose would do best in a home where he wasn’t left home alone all day long, he misses his people too much,’ the shelter added.

The shelter has already received several applications for the cute canine, with NorthStar Pet Rescue announcing on social media, ‘We are hopeful he will find a forever home soon! Thank you for caring & sharing everyone!’
