Horrific!

An eight-year-old girl has died after crashing a drag racing car into a cement barrier at a track south of Perth.

Anita Board suffered critical injuries in the crash at Perth Motorplex in Kwinana yesterday afternoon and was rushed to hospital in a critical condition, but sadly passed away today.

The young girl lost control of her vehicle at the end of her solo run and crashed into a cement barrier.

No other drivers were on the track at the time.

Anita had just turned eight last Thursday, the minimum age to be allowed to race under Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA) rules.

Her father Ian J Board posted a photo of Anita, and her sister Zara, in a car saying ‘Our angel setting out on what was meant to be a day to remember for all the right reasons. My heart in a million pieces atm.’

The siblings were among 26 entrants for the Goldenstates Junior Dragster event.

ANDRA offered its condolences to Anita’s family:

‘The Australian National Drag Racing Association is deeply saddened to confirm the passing of Junior Dragster competitor Anita Board following an on track incident during an event held at the Perth Motorplex on the 11th of November,’ the racing organisation said in a statement.

‘Everyone at the Australian National Drag Racing Association extends its sincere and deepest condolences to Anita’s family, friends and the wider drag racing community at this tragic time.

‘ANDRA will continue to work with VenuesWest and continue to assist police with their investigations while supporting Anita’s family, and ask that the privacy of the family is respected at this tragic time,’ the statement concluded.

Police want to speak with anyone who saw or took video of the crash.

Our thoughts are with Anita’s family and friends during this tragic time.
