A teenage brother has died attempting to protect his sister during a home invasion.
According to a GoFundMe page, Khyler Edman, 15, was defending his five-year-old when a man broke into their home in Port Charlotte, Florida.
Police described the home invasion as ‘violent’.
It’s currently unclear how Khyler died. His sister remained unharmed from the incident.
Crystal Stone, a family friend, who spoke to WINK-TV, described the young boy as a ‘hero’ and ‘gentle soul.’
She said, ‘He loved his family. He was his sister’s keeper.’
The GoFundMe page has been created to raise money to find a new home for the Edman family and also pay for Khyler’s funeral.
On the page, it says, ‘This is not going to only give Khyler the burial he deserves, this will allow Khyler’s mum and five-year-old sister to be able to get into another house so they aren’t faced with having to relive the traumatic experience over again.’
It continues, ‘It will also help to make sure justice is served in the justice system. Khyler was a hero protecting his sister but please continue to keep her in your prayers as she witnessed this.’
According to Fox 11, Ryan Clayton Cole, 27, has been arrested and charged with ‘burglary of an occupied dwelling and petit theft.’
