QLD school in lockdown after teacher allegedly stabbed by student

The school is providing support to students following the incident

A Gold Coast special school is providing support to “distressed” students after a teacher was reportedly stabbed with a pair of scissors, allegedly by a student.

Southport Special School was placed in lockdown about 11am on Monday after the staff member received an unspecified injury.

The Gold Coast Bulletin reported a 17-year-old female student allegedly stabbed a female teacher, who was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

In a letter to parents, principal Susan Christensen said the lockdown measure was precautionary.

“Some other students witnessed the incident and may understandably be distressed,” she said.

“We have contacted those students’ families.
