A 51-year-old man has been jailed for murdering his nephew after he discovered he’d been having an affair with his wife.
The man, who can’t be named for legal reasons, from Sydney’s southwest showed no remorse for his crime, admitting he had sought punishment after he felt he had been dishonoured.
After moving Sydney in January 2015 to live with his aunt, uncle and their daughter with whom he had been matched with for an arranged marriage, the victim instead formed a connection with his aunt before the pair began an intimate affair.
It’s understood that once the killer learned of their relationship, the victim was kicked out of the family home and took up residence in another property just a few kilometres away as the affair continued.
During the trial, the court heard that the killer became obsessive and purchased multiple tracking devices and sim cards in the weeks prior to the murder to monitor the pair’s location at at times.
On the night of the killing, the killer sent a text to his wife reading ‘God will punish you.’
The man then waited in the bushes outside the victim’s property for him to return home before carrying out an execution-style killing.
As the victim made his way to the front door, he was shot seven times with a .22 calibre handgun, including wounds to his eye, brain and heart.
His lifeless body was found slumped at the entrance of the property with his car keys still in his hands.
When he was found guilty by a jury earlier this year, the man spat at them and called them ‘pigs’.
Appearing in court via videolink from prison, the man appeared unremorseful for his hideous crime.
He was sentenced for 32 years with a non-parole periods of 23 years. He will be eligible for release in October 2039.
