Meghan Markle has issued a rare apology in a touching letter to her former schoolmates.

The Duchess of Sussex, 37, could not attend her 20-year high school reunion after the birth of her baby son Archie and personally apologised for her absence.

Meghan sent an envelope marked from ‘Kensington Palace’ to her class of 1999 at Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles, California.

‘Everyone was disappointed that they did not get to catch up with Meghan given everything that has happened to her,’ a former friend told Mail Online.

‘They were so excited to get that letter from her. She is remembered as someone who is very thoughtful, and to get that kind of attention now that she is a Royal went down really well.’

Meghan’s former school friends said they hoped the Duchess would attend the 25-year reunion in 2024 with Prince Harry and Archie.

The class reunion was held on May 5 in Meghan’s native Los Angeles.

Then the following day, Meghan gave birth to her baby son Archie Harrison – before introducing him to the world two days later.

Meghan’s school congratulated their famous alumna on its official Facebook page after the royal baby was born.

‘The school community extends best wishes of happiness to the Royal Family on this joyous event!’ the statement said.

The Duchess spent middle school and high school at Immaculate Heart in Los Feliz, which costs a staggering $16,850 a year.
