A mum has been jailed after starving her children to death as a cult told her they were ‘unclean’.

Nashika Bumble was sentenced to life in prison after killing her two daughters, Makayla Roberts, 10, and Hannah Marshall, 8, in September 2017.

The Metro reported that Bramble was given two life sentences by judge Keri Yoder, who told the woman, ‘One for each daughter.’

According to the Telluride Daily Planet, Bramble’s children were discovered decomposing in their mother’s car near Norwood, Southern Colorado.

In a post mortem, it was determined the girls died of heat, starvation and dehydration.

It also decided that Makayla and Hannah had been in the car for at least two weeks before dying.

In July, Bramble was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder.

During the trial, the court heard how she was a member of a religious cult called The Family.

Her and other members believed the 2017 solar eclipse would cause an apocalypse and they would be transported to another spiritual realm.

Bramble had moved into a derelict former weed farm close to where the sisters’ bodies were found.

It’s believed the Family leader, Madani Ceus, told Bramble her daughters were ‘unclean’, resulting in the siblings’ abandonment.

Ceus will stand trial for two counts of murder in January 2020.

Other members of the cult have been charged over the children’s deaths.

County Sherriff of San Miguel, Bill Masters, told Fox31, ‘In my 37 years as sheriff, I have never seen anything as cruel and heartless as this.’

The father of the girls was not involved in their lives and had nothing to do with their deaths.

It’s reported that Bramble was pregnant when she was arrested and that her youngest child has been taken into social services’ care.

Bramble was told that she will never be eligible for parole.
