A two-year-old girl has died after being left in a hot car while her mum drank with a friend.
According to Fox 11, June Love Agosto was left in the car in Torrance, California, for up to five hours.
Police say the toddler’s mother had left the windows up and heater on, as well as placing a blanket over the young girl.
Yahoo News reported that June’s mum told police she got into a friend’s vehicle that was next to hers for a drink, before falling asleep.
Hours later, she woke to discover her daughter covered in vomit and burns to her body.
She placed her daughter on nearby grass and desperately tried to cool her down with water until paramedics arrived.
Emergency services quickly rushed June to hospital in full cardiac arrest, but she sadly couldn’t be saved.
The mother is currently in custody as police continue to investigate, but Fox 11 reported that the coroner ruled the death as accidental.
A police report revealed the child’s mother was a former drug addict but had been through rehabilitation.
June’s grandmother said, ‘Our family is broken, we just need prayers and we’re just broken.’
A GoFundMe, which has been set up to support the family, describes June as ‘full of life and loved by so many.’
