A dog has been rescued and rushed to a vet after she was buried alive on a beach.
According to reports, the female pup was found badly injured on a beach in Oahu, Hawaii.
A passerby had spotted a man burying the pooch in the sand on July 9, before alerting authorities.
PAWS of Hawaii shared the tragic story on their Facebook page, explaining that the dog – who they named Leialoha – was found with lacerations on her front paw.
It also looked like a machete had been used to slash the canine.
They wrote, ‘Poor girl was bleeding from every inch of her body,’ and that she was found, ‘incredibly swollen, sunburned and missing 90 per cent of her fur.’
Updating Facebook fans on Leiahola’s progress, they said, ‘[she] is doing okay, ate and drank. She is very tired and lethargic, but received lots of SQ fluids.’
PAWS also said the poor pooch is being cared for ‘by a lovely family.’
Many generously donated to the charity and other offered to foster Leiahola.
Other wrote kind words of support for the dog – ‘This poor sweet girl. Please let her heal quickly and get all the love she deserves,’ one person said.
Another added, ‘Donated. May she have a full recovery and find a forever home filled with love. Her story breaks my heart.’
