Dancer Joana Sainz killed by firework on stage after display goes tragically wrong

A dancer has died after being hit by a firework on stage.

Joana Sainz, 30, was performing at a festival in Las Berlanas, Madrid, when a firework that was part of the show exploded and hit her in the stomach.

The pyrotechnic display was supposed to send sparks flying up from either side of the stage, but part of the device hit Joana and she collapsed from the impact.

Footage filmed by the audience shows performers rushing to her aid, but she tragically died after being taken to hospital.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.
