Mum shares snap of her fit body two months after birth

Aussie Emily Skye says ‘there’s nothing wrong with wanting to look good’ - by Katherine Davison
  • 27 Feb 2018

She’s the Aussie fitness guru who welcomed a baby girl in December, and now Emily Skye has shared a snap of her body just two months on.

The popular Gold Coast trainer took to Instagram to share the before and after pictures of her body with her 2.2 million followers.

‘Physically speaking I will never be the same (which isn’t a bad thing) and I’m making the most of what I’ve got,’ Emily – whose baby girl Mia Elise Redmond, was born on December 18 weighing 3.5kg - told her fans.

‘I’ve still got loose skin on my belly but my abs are beginning to make a comeback - which shows me that what I’m doing is working (following my FIT Program)!’

Emily went on to say that some people misunderstand her reasons for living a ‘fit and active lifestyle’ – thinking that she’s ‘selfish’ for following it because she’s now a mum.

‘Being fit, strong and healthy is important to me mainly because of how it makes me feel,’ Emily explained. ‘And if I feel good I’m happy, and I’m a much better mum to my daughter Mia and a better partner to my man Dec and so on.

‘I also like being strong for myself because I like it and I love the look of a strong physique!’ the fit mum continued.

‘My focus is always on being healthy but I like to look good too and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to look good!!

‘I’m not sure why there seems to be a stigma attached to wanting to look good. As long as I’m not ever sacrificing my health to look a certain way and as long as it doesn’t negatively affect my family I don’t see anything wrong with it - in fact I see everything RIGHT with it!’

Emily went on to urge the followers to ‘do what makes you happy regardless of what anyone else thinks – as long as it doesn’t directly hurt anybody’.

‘These are words I live by and what I’ll instill in my daughter,’ the new mum continued.

‘The last thing I want is for her to live to please others (like I used to) - there is a difference between showing love and doing nice things for people and trying to constantly please others at the expense of your own happiness.

‘This lifestyle makes me happy so I’m going to keep living it and I encourage you to live a life that makes you happy too.’

Previously, Emily has been candid about how motherhood affected her.

‘When I first had Mia I was obviously over the moon... but something I haven’t shared with you all is I suffered badly with the baby blues,’ she wrote in January.

‘I’d previously heard about the “baby blues” but I never understood it. I couldn’t ever imagine feeling down after having Mia. - Well it happened to me!

‘A few days after having her I started feeling really depressed, I hadn’t slept in days and my hormones would have been all over the place when it hit me.

‘Your body goes through SO much having a baby, and while most of the changes are physical and obvious, there are a lot of things that aren’t so obvious like your hormones and emotions,’ Emily went on.

‘I spent at least 10 days feeling really sad and I cried constantly for no reason! I couldn’t understand how I was so blessed and happy to have my precious Mia and yet I felt soooo miserable.

‘Luckily those feelings passed and I started feeling more normal. - My hormones were balancing, I managed to get some sleep and what really we helped me was moving my body - I started some light workouts (mainly walking - as I’ve previously posted about) and I felt so much better instantly.

‘It’s amazing how good you feel after moving your body and getting the blood flowing. I already feel like a new person! The natural high you get is the best - I hadn’t had that in about 4 months and oh how I’d missed that feeling!’
