Marie Franklin discovered that choosing not to spend your $5 notes works wonders.
Whenever she received them as change, she would store them away from the rest of her cash.
Eventually, Franklin had to take her $5 note savings to the bank. Thirteen years later and she now has saved a whopping $38,000!
Franklin said of her success: 'I refused to spend it under any circumstance and started accumulating those fives, first in a separate compartment of my wallet and then, as the pile grew, in an envelope.'
'It was fun and totally painless. I knew I was onto something big' she added.
Franklin, who is a journalism professor now gives professional money advice on her personal blog, Save Money With Fives.
