A mother has been left mortified after discovering that her daughter's beautiful long locks had been shaved off.
Denise Robinson picked up her child from school to find her daughter's long curly hair had been shaved off, so much so her daughter, Tru, was as good as bald.
The mother was even more horrified to be told by Tru that the staff at the school told her chopping off her hair meant it would 'grow back straight .'
The little girl, who lives part time at Little Heroes Group Home in Dracut, Connecticut, because she suffers from emotional difficulties, was taken to a salon without her mother's consent.
The school said the haircut was necessary for hygienic reasons in the following statement: 'The program employs a diverse staff that is attentive to the needs of all children. Decisions regarding grooming are based on a variety of factors, including hygiene.'
'A review of the circumstances is underway to determine what occurred and, if necessary, appropriate action will be taken,' it also stated.
But Denise strongly disagrees with the actions of the daycare staff, as she didn't even receive a phone call to ask her permission.
'There was no hygienic reason for them to shave my child’s head. There was no head lice, there were no bed bugs. There was no - what I refer to - as rasta locks going on,' Denise told NECN.
'Her hair was two pony tails on the side on Saturday and it was braided in the ponytails and there was nothing wrong.'
