A woman who was killed by a fallen tree in a Melbourne park yesterday morning has been named as mum-of-two Allison Milner, 36.

At around 8:30am yesterday, Allison was struck by a 100-year-old Elm tree in Princes Park, Parkvile. Ambulance crews and the fire brigade were at the scene within five minutes, but sadly she later died from her injuries at Royal Melbourne Hospital.

She has left behind a husband and two little boys aged three and five.

Allison was an Associate Professor the University of Melbourne's School of Population and Global Health, where she was a suicide, disability and mental health researcher.

'Allison's tragic death is a great shock and an immense loss to the university community," said head of school Terry Nolan.

'She will be deeply missed by all of us, but particularly by her colleagues at the disability and health unit in the Centre for Health Equity.

'She was an outstanding scholar who always strove to make a difference. Her research spanned the fields of suicide prevention, work, gender, and disability.'

Her colleague, Marie Bismark, said on Twitter: 'Allison Milner was a brilliant researcher, a generous colleague, and a loving mum. She led Australia's largest study of suicide by doctors, among many other research projects which made a difference in the world. She will be deeply missed.'

Photos from the scene show a large Elm tree on its side with its roots on show. It can be seen across a path that's popular with runners, cyclists and dog walkers.

The tree fall comes after a few days of extreme weather in Melbourne with icy blasts and wild weather warnings all weekend.
