A man has been sent for a mental health assessment after being identified by members of the public.
Footage captured by a witness on Sunday evening shows a man emptying a bucket of faeces over plaques at the Monument Hill memorial.
When confronted, the man admitted dumping excrement on the memorial.
When asked why he was desecrating the memorial, he responded:"That's my personal prerogative".
The person took a photograph of the man, who appears to be carrying a guitar, and reported the incident to police.
Police have yet to lay charges over the incident.
