Toblerone are redesigning their iconic chocolate bar and people are angry

Their hardcore fans are not impressed.

The famous Swiss chocolate bar has been a favourite for decades and is easily identifiable by it’s triangular ‘peaks’ of hazelnut-filled milk chocolate.

Invented in 1908 in Bern, Switzerland and modelled after the Swiss Alps, the almond-packed milk chocolate bar is now exported to over 120 countries by American confectioner, Mondelez International.

This week the chocolate-maker defended the decision to increase the distance between the peaks saying that costs of ingredients have forced them to cut 30g from each bar.

‘We carry these costs for as long as possible, but to ensure Toblerone remains on shelf, is affordable and retains the iconic shape we all know and love, we have had to reduce the weight of this particular bar,’ said a Mondelez spokesperson.

For now it looks like the changes only affect Toblerone in the UK – but that won’t stop this writer buying up a stockpile.
