A gin & tonic could help relieve this chronic health condition

Clear spirits, including gin and vodka, are “better options” according to Asthma UK, because they’re low in histamine and food preserving sulphites, which can trigger allergies.

In fact, gin’s unique distillation process means it’s entirely free of sulphites.

But darker-coloured alcoholic beverages – including beer and red wine – have higher levels of these two chemicals.

According to Asthma UK, as well as ethanol, “alcoholic drinks contain a natural food chemical called histamine, which is found at particularly high levels in red wine and some beers. Red wine is the main culprit, followed by white wine, beer and then cider.”
